Be Early, Be Ready!

Written by Byron Graham, Director of Recruiting Operations

You may not hear this often, but having the foresight to arrive early is a critical quality and asset to have in life that everyone should strive to do.

Showing up early to any appointments, functions, or commitments shows the person you are meeting with they are important enough for you to be present before the event. It is also a way to prove that you have drive, motivation, and dedication.

Regarding the topic, I always reflect on this statement:

“Showing up early is on time — showing up on time is late.”

If you do not believe this, I challenge you to try it yourself. If I was interviewing for a job with nine other candidates, what do you think might set a candidate apart?

I would like to believe that showing up early and prepared is the first thing that would help you stand out. An early arrival shows you have genuine initiative and interest in what you are showing up for, and people will notice your actions.

I remember joining a company that embodied this value in a very literal sense.

When a meeting started at 10 AM, the door would close, and if you were not in the room by 10 AM, you missed the meeting.

This may be extreme, but it proved to be quite effective. The company culture resulted in executives arriving early for meetings and preparing for them. It trickled down into every meeting, every huddle, and every day.

Early

When starting a new project, place extra effort to arrive early and be ready for whatever the client needs.

It allows us to be proactive and exceed expectations. This is one of the ways that we model the Core Value, “Spirit of Excellence.”
