“Character is not only doing the right thing when no one is looking; it’s doing the right thing when everyone is looking. It’s being willing to do the right thing even when it costs more than you want to pay.”
– Michael Josephson
Doing the Right Thing can be difficult, especially if you weren’t taught this value at a young age.
Doing the Right Thing can be costly. It is not always the popular choice and can feel hurtful if you are sharing another person’s behavior.
With technology, we have the ability to “catfish,” which is when you pretend to be someone else to punk or fool others. We even have apps that can hack your location to make it look like you’re on the other side of the world.
Whenever we don’t want to deal with something, we ghost people and skip jobs, interviews, etc. Relationship experts and psychologists agree that people prone to ghosting do so to avoid uncomfortable situations.
When we ask ourselves, “What is the right thing to do?” we generally know what is right. Then it just comes down to following through with our actions.
Not every situation is black and white, and it isn’t always easy to see the correct thing to do.
At InDemand Services, we ask everyone to follow this Core Value because in the community, when we uphold our commitments and embrace transparent accountability, it makes us feel good. Being good makes you feel good.
When your beliefs and your behaviors match, we call that integrity. When your words and actions match, you become trustworthy.
You become someone who others can follow. You give others the courage to do the right thing even when no one is watching.
These are the types of people that our company, our country, and our world desperately need to produce change.
Remember, Doing the Right Thing starts with you and me.
