Investing in the value of people can mean many, many things. For instance, employment at your job can give you a sense of security, purpose, and fulfillment. Supervisors and managers invest in people daily by training and leading their teams. They also have ongoing discussions with our clients to ensure the project goes smoothly.
Serving others in the community is an incredible way to invest in the value of people. Doing so helps those less fortunate feel as though they are cared for in this world. Investing does not always have to involve money. Giving time and effort is often enough to show somebody you care for them.
Have you ever worked for a company and felt like just a number? You do the same thing every day and work as hard as you can to make a good impression in hopes of, one day, getting a raise or promotion. You outperform all your coworkers, but you get no recognition or even a pat on the back.
Imagine, after putting in lots of effort to get the job done, your supervisor approaches you, or you receive an email saying, “Thank you for everything you do,” or, “I noticed how hard you’re always working, and I appreciate you.”
It makes you feel proud and accomplished and gives you a sense that you’re really making an impact. Telling your coworker a simple “thank you” or “great job” can do wonders for their confidence, mood, and self-worth.
So the next time you see a team member working hard on a task, let them know you appreciate their work and watch their face light up as they receive positive recognition.
Some of the best supervisors and managers go out of their way to ensure that each one of their team members is appreciated and valued. They invest their time by helping you grow and develop through hands-on training. The best ones even know your name and ask about your kids and family because they truly care about you as a person!
Investing in people doesn’t just happen at work. There are always others who could use some extra help or encouragement. People break down on the side of the road all day long, and very few people stop to help or see if everything is okay.
Volunteer groups are always on the lookout for more volunteers to help feed those less fortunate and pick up trash from the roadways. Investing your time to help others will give you a sense of purpose while also positively impacting those around you.
When you begin investing in the value of people, it gives you a whole new outlook on life. So, the next time you are on the phone with someone, don’t be in such a hurry to hang up. Really ask how they are doing and ensure them you are there when needed. Simply telling them they are important to you is a warm, positive gesture, and it can go a long way.
